What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dr. Holly Schaff is a licensed Clinical Psychologist working in Avon, CT. She has over 25 years of experience serving diverse populations in settings that include non-profit agencies, colleges, schools and mental health clinics. She works with both adolescents and adults, but has a special interest in supporting young adults and their parents as they navigate challenging transitions.
Approaching therapy as a partnership
Carefully customized for each unique individual, Dr. Holly sees therapy as an invitation for self-knowledge and growth. What keeps us stuck even though we desperately want things to be different? What drives our behavior? How can we reduce distress and feel better?
Understanding and guidance
Evaluations are carried out using a specialized team testing approach, helping clients, families and providers understand what drives symptoms and behavior. The goal is to find a way to move forward.
A pathway to independence
Emerging adulthood is a unique and challenging stage of development for young people and their parents. There is no single formula. Compassion and experience are the guides.
A resource for parents
Parenting can be the most important, yet most difficult job you ever have. Insight and guidance from someone with expertise could make all the difference.

Doorways
Doors symbolize so many things relevant to psychology.

Like psychology, they welcome us into a space where we can find exploration, rest, comfort, and company.

They also offer us a reliable boundary in service of protection, privacy, and safety.

Doors, and our own psychology, can leave us feeling trapped and stuck, but they can also offer a route for escape and movement.

There are front doors and side doors and back doors and trap doors and barn doors and revolving doors and car doors.

Each door, and each person’s psychology, has its own individual identity, special purpose and unique access.
